Do you know a child who has trouble making friends? Perhaps he or she has acquaintances at school, but no plans on the weekends? My social skills groups are designed to help children and teens practice socializing with others their age while receiving support and guidance from trained mental health professionals.  

 

Now accepting referrals for the following age groups:

  • Early elementary (K-2nd)
  • Elementary (3rd-5th)
  • Middle school (6th-8th)
  • High school (9th-12th)

A social skills group is appropriate for children who fit at least one of the descriptions below:

  • Has difficulty making and maintaining friendships
  • May be perceived by others as awkward
  • Has many strengths, such as intelligence or creativity, but rarely has plans on the weekends
  • Is more comfortable with adults than peers
  • Is very shy and/or anxious in social settings
  • Is diagnosed with a developmental disability (i.e., Asperger’s, PDD NOS, or Autism) and is high functioning
  • Has other symptoms or conditions that may interfere with his/her social lives (ex. Depression, anxiety, ongoing medical problems, significant speech problems, frequent hospitalizations).
